Hugh was born in 1520 in Ballincor, Glenmalure, Wicklow, Ireland.  Hugh's father was Shane Oge McRedmund O'Byrne and his mother was Doireann O'Byrne OByrne.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 59 in 1579 in Ballincor, Glenmalure, Wicklow, Ireland.
