Matthew was born in February 1756 in Sulhampstead Abbots, Berkshire, England.  Matthew's father was William Piggot and his mother is Elizabeth Usher.  His maternal grandfather is Lancelot Usher and his maternal grandmother was Alice Barley.  He is an only child.
