Elizabeth was born on December 18th, 1559 in Cranston Riddell, Dalkeith, Edinburghshire, Scotland. Elizabeth's father was Sir James Makgill and her mother was Jane Elizabeth Adamson. Her paternal grandparents were James Makgill and Helen Wardlaw; her maternal grandfather was William Adamson, Burgess of Edinburgh and her maternal grandmother is Not Filled. She had six brothers and a sister, named James Robert, John, Samuel, Zachary, Elspeth, David and Rachel. She was the youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 61 on January 22nd, 1621 in Strathdon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
