Jane was born on September 7th, 1818 in , Kirkpatrick Juxta, Dumfries, Scotland.  Jane's father was Samuel Marjoribanks and her mother was Mary Reid.  Her paternal grandfather was James Marchbank and her paternal grandmother is Mary Kirkpatrick; her maternal grandparents are James Reid and Annie Halliday. She had four brothers and a sister, named James, Samuel, Francis Reid, David and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 49 on April 29th, 1868 in Kingholm Quay, Dumfries-shire, Scotland.
