Elizabeth was born about 1818 in Scotland.¹ Elizabeth's father was Samuel Marjoribanks and her mother was Mary Reid. Her paternal grandfather was James Marchbank and her paternal grandmother is Mary Kirkpatrick; her maternal grandparents are James Reid and Annie Halliday. She had four brothers and a sister, named James, Samuel, Francis Reid, David and Jane. She is the third youngest of the six children.
