James M. was born on November 28th, 1909 in Derrycoosh, Mayo, Ireland. James M.'s father was Patrick Behan and his mother was Mary Behan. His paternal grandparents were William Behan and Elizabeth Walsh. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Anthony, Patrick, Tom, Michael, Thomas, John Joseph, Ellen "Nellie", Annie Kate and Mary "Molly". He was the fifth youngest of the ten children. He had a half-brother named John Joseph. He died at the age of 63 on September 12th, 1973.
