Thomas was born on June 28th, 1913 in Derrycoosh, Kilkelly, Mayo, Ireland. Thomas' father was Patrick Behan and his mother was Mary Behan. His paternal grandparents were William Behan and Elizabeth Walsh. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Anthony, Patrick, Tom, Michael, James M., John Joseph, Ellen "Nellie", Annie Kate and Mary "Molly". He was the third youngest of the ten children. He had a half-brother named John Joseph. He died at the age of 69 on May 19th, 1983 in Derrycoosh, Kilkelly, Mayo, Ireland.
