Tom was born about 1905.¹ Tom's father was Patrick Behan and his mother was Mary Behan. His paternal grandparents were William Behan and Elizabeth Walsh. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Anthony, Patrick, Michael, James M., Thomas, John Joseph, Ellen "Nellie", Annie Kate and Mary "Molly". He is the fourth oldest of the ten children. He had a half-brother named John Joseph.
