Marion was born in 1503 in Ormston, East Lothian, Scotland. Marion's father was Sir William Cockburn 7th Laird of Ormiston, Lord High Sheriff of Berwick and her mother was Lady Janet Somerville Baroness Ormiston. Her paternal grandparents were John Cockburn and Margaret Hepburn. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Ninian, Alexander, Ninian, Sir John II, Margaret and Lady Helen. She was the second oldest of the seven children. She died at the age of 87 in 1590 in Kent, England.
